Collector Snapshot

Too Slow completes the Triptych by inhabiting the space where awareness arrives late. Inspired by the koan, “What does the rooster crow to the still rabbit?”, this work captures the moment after descent, when recognition lags behind consequence.

The painting reflects stalled response. Lessons learned too late. Warnings heard but not acted upon. The discipline of childhood, once clear in Up Top and pressured in Down Low, now fractures into delay and misalignment. Memory persists, but momentum slips. Structure remains, but reaction falters.

As the final work of the Triptych, Too Slow holds the reckoning. It is not collapse, but lag. Not failure, but timing missed by inches. For collectors, this piece carries weight as the psychological resolution of the three-part work.

Artwork Details

Inspired by the Koan:

“What does the rooster crow to the still rabbit?”

He’s touched the morning dew as the sunlight refracts through the cold droplet of water upon the blade of grass in the backyard of his childhood home.
Watch the ants care for the Peonies.
Mom liked the pink blooms—
or were they white.
Mom used Coppertone—and we roamed the neighborhood on bikes
Testing skills and fear in cemeteries.

Forgotten dreams and mistakes laid to rest in one place
And having your first kiss at halfmoon was a thing to do.
Spider bites from working the zones of tombstones so we could buy enough pot, LS D and Mad Dog 20/20
Way before you thought Tik Tok was an app.
Your mama and your mama’s mama and her mama
Slap the taste out your mouth.
For being disrespectful.

Auntie and Nanny didn’t play—
Unless it was the numbers.
And the 2’s better be hitting.
I’m not—Fucking Playing with this shit
Or—y’all
No
MO.

The boys had to sweep, do the dishes and clean the kitchen floor.
Before playing Coleco vision.
X-Ray vision—
Simple up, down, left and right.
What’s right is Right
What’s wrong is wrong.

You don’t know the words to this damn song.
This was my jam back in the day.
Man, you know you wrong.
Shit—man

Then what’s the name of the song?
Fuck You!
And we keep—
Keeping on.

Full Description

Too Slow is built from disrupted grids, staggered marks, and layered interruptions that prevent the eye from settling into a stable rhythm. Blues dominate the surface, but warmer tones press through unevenly, creating moments of hesitation and visual drag.

Linework appears out of sync, as if systems once aligned now miss each other by fractions. Repetition no longer reassures. It delays. The surface records the sensation of reacting after the fact, where understanding arrives without the power to undo what has already occurred.

Price Growth of Mixed Media Works

Too Slow frames delay as a lived condition rather than a mistake.

Through disrupted rhythm and fractured structure, the work records the cost of recognition arriving late. As the closing panel of the Triptych, it resolves the arc from formation to pressure to reckoning, completing the moral and psychological inquiry initiated in Up Top.”
